 Family Promise

Our church is a host congregation for Family Promise of Anderson County, a ministry that provides support for families experiencing homelessness. For more information, please visit Family Promise.

Opportunities to Serve:

  • Volunteer by signing up on the board      located on the 3rd floor outside of the      Deacon Conference Room or by                contacting Shelby Clardy or                      call 376-8698.  
  • Unload trailer and set up rooms for          families (Sunday 2pm, 8 people)
  • Provide a hot meal in the evenings          (drop off by 5:30pm)
  • Spend the night (8pm-7am, 2                    overnight hosts)
  • Provide snack food, breakfast items,        drinks, and 2 days worth of lunch            items
  • Fellowship with families (6-8pm, 2          people each night)
  • Fellowship/activity Saturday
  • Load trailer and put SS rooms back          together (Sunday 6:30am, 8 people)
  • Laundry to be done after host week        and returned to The Rock room

 Saturday Servants

Once a quarter, volunteers meet in the Fellowship Hall to prepare approximately 300 bag lunches for this ministry and deliver them to Mt. Carmel CME Church to be distributed to the community.

Opportunities to Serve:

  • Sunday School classes are invited to        sign up to serve together
  • Volunteer to collect food items from        donors and Sams Club
  • Come to the Fellowship Hall at 9:30        am to make sandwiches and pack            lunches
  • Load boxes of bag lunches in cars            and deliver to Mt Carmel CME Church      at 10:45 am

Housing Ministry

The Wilmary is an outreach ministry of First Baptist Church Anderson, providing safe, secure, and affordable housing for the senior citizens of our church and community, on a nonprofit basis. For more information, please click here.

Opportunities to Serve:
  • Be aware of available vacancies and        inform others who may need this kind      of living arrangement
  • Teach a Bible study class or lead a          monthly social activity
  • Transport residents to doctor                    appointments, grocery stores,                  pharmacies, etc.
  • Help with a newsletter for residents
  • Donate books and other reading              materials
  • Make a monetary donation or help          conduct fundraisers for renovation
  • Adopt a resident
  • Renovate a room or adopt a major            need as a group project

 New Year’s Day Community Meal

On January 1 each year, our church and other community members serve a traditional New Year’s Day meal and provide blankets to those in need in the Family Life Center.

Opportunities to Serve:

  • Donate a blanket
  • Donate food – ham, collard greens, black-eyed peas, corn          bread, dessert, and hot dogs
  • Make a monetary donation
  • Serve lunch in the Family Life Center
  • Pick collards on Saturday before New Year’s Day
  • Shuck collards on Sunday before New Year’s Day in the              Fellowship Hall at 10:30 am
  • Set up tables and chairs
  • Clean up after lunch
