YOUTH

The Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church Anderson is a community of middle and high school students who want to have fun and learn about Jesus. Through meaningful conversations, service projects, group outings, retreats, and camps, our youth learn more about embracing their identity and how their passions can help change the world. As children grow into young men and women, we hope you will find a home at First Baptist Church and in youth ministry.

Sunday Morning Worship:

Worship starts at 9:30 in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. Congregational worship at First Baptist Church Anderson is a unique experience and youth are invited to worship with their families or with other students in the front of the sanctuary.

Youth have opportunities to serve in worship each Sunday by either collecting the offering with the deacons or reading Scripture.

 Sunday Morning Sunday School:

We meet in the Youth Sunday School room, 209, following the worship service. All of our youth are together for this time of teaching and study. Bible study is taught by a rotation of teachers.

 Sunday Night Youth Fellowship:

During the school year, we meet at the homes of various church members for fellowship from 5:30-7:00 pm. Hosts share a snack supper with us before we come together for shared activities and discussion.

 Wednesday Night Youth Group:

During the school year, students can arrive as early as 4:00 to the Family Life Center for open gym. This time is unstructured, but students usually play basketball or other games, fellowship, or complete homework. We come together at 6:00 for a fun game, Bible lesson, and small groups. This is a great time to connect and refocus mid-week.

Open Gym: 4:00-6:00

Bible Study: 6:00-7:00

Youth Worship: 6:00-7:00 (select Wednesdays in room 209)

Church Basketball:

First Baptist participates in the Anderson Church Athletic Association youth basketball league. High school students can work as a scorekeeper or run the clock after attending a training session in the fall. For more information please contact Amy Brown or visit breakaway-ministries.org.

Youth Sunday:

Once a year, the youth have an opportunity to lead the Sunday morning worship. Middle and high school students can read, sing, pray, collect the offering, share testimonies, or preach. This gives students an opportunity to use God-given gifts to help worshippers experience God in fresh ways.

Passport Choices Camp:

Passport Choices Camp is a unique camp set on the campus of Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Youth choose from a list of creative ways to learn and express their faith in God, attend thought-provoking worship sessions, and enjoy free time and recreation on the campus. Traditionally, we attend camp the week after July 4th and hold a fundraiser in March. We love Passport!

Back to School Retreat:

Enjoy the beauty at Look Up Lodge as summer comes to an end, complete with a giant swing, fun in the lake, a bonfire, and thematic worship sessions. This retreat is a “kick-off” to our school year and rising 6th graders will be welcomed into the youth group.

Disciple Now Retreat

(D-Now):

For all middle and high school students, this local retreat is hosted at First Baptist and in the homes of church members. It’s a retreat without leaving Anderson. The weekend consists of Bible study, worship, recreation, food, and lots of fun. We encourage students to include friends and visitors for this retreat. D-Now is held during President’s Day weekend.

Youth Praise Team:

The Youth Praise Team is a group of students who lead our monthly Youth Worship on Wednesday nights. Students have opportunities to share their God-given gifts of music to lead us in worship.

Missions:

:Our youth are learning to put their faith into action. This leads us into our community as we share the Good News to others. Find our local ministry partners here.

The summer months allow us to travel outside of the community. Every few years, we embark on a week-long mission journey nationally or internationally.
